General Notes on conditions ... Sacramento River King salmon fishing in the Cottonwood area is slow at present. A good day is a fish per rod, but many guides and anglers are falling short of this number. There will likely be some spurts of improved fishing, but its not looking like we will have the kind of fishing we are used to in October.
Sacramento River
Water Flow: 7750 cfs.
Water Temp: 53 degrees +/-
Current Trends: 9/29- Sac River flows are gradually on the decline. Water color is good and visibility is about 3-4 feet. Dropping water levels have a lot of grass and moss breaking loose causing problems with plugs and bait rigs. Salmon fishing seems to be slowly improving in the Barge Hole area and steelhead trout fishing is steady. Its time to start fishing egg patterns!!
Klamath River
Current Trends: 9/29- The Klamath River temps are in the high 60's and only a few guides are currently still fishing down low. No reports of great fishing, but there are a few salmon and steelhead being caught.
Whiskeytown Lake
Current Trends: 9/29- Water temps are coming down and were 69 degrees. Color is good and very fishable.
Shasta Lake
Current Trends: 9/29- Shasta Lake is also cooling and is still in the low 70's depending on where you are fishing. Fishing for rainbow trout and landlocked King salmon is good and should improve as the lake cools. Trolling deep is best now
Keswick Reservoir
Current Trends: 9/29- Keswick is running cool at about 51 degrees, but is full of debris and is a challenge to fish right now.
